The Galapagos Islands can be visited and enjoyed throughout the entire year. Due to the the geographical location the weather does vary with the seasons as well as throughout the Galapagos Archipelago. June to December
Despite the location on the equator, the Galapagos Islands does have a cooler, more windy season. The Humboldt Current, a cold, nutrient rich water, flows and in this season can bring frequent drizzles and a mist that pervades over the Islands. This keeps the highlands of the larger islands green and lush, while at lower elevations there is less precipitation. June through November is generally called the “dry season,” known for its blue skies and mid-day rain showers. July, August, and September are also some of the best times to see humpback whales in the Galapagos Islands, who take advantage of the nutrient that come to the surface in this time. Temperatures remain between 21°C (70°F) and 23°C (74°F) during these months. December to May
The “warm season” in the Galapagos Islands is December to May. During this season the climate is more tropical and it is not uncommon to have daily rain, followed by a sun. Ocean temperatures are warmer for swimming and snorkeling and there is little to no wind. The average daily temperature is between 25°C (77°F) and 28°C (83°F) during these months. |
